Spring BloomsSpring at the Farmhouse:

Spring Home Tour

I am so excited about teaming up with eight other amazing and talented bloggers to give you a spring tour of our homes. The hope it that you will find some refreshing spring inspiration from us all through our own unique styles. This was an exciting project for me to work on and I have been inspired by each one of these lovely ladies through this process. I hope you find some inspiration through exploring this spring home tour, as well. Welcome to those who are joining me from Areeba’s blog, Mint Candy Designs, for the Spring at the Farmhouse blog hop. I’m so happy you are here!

Since moving to the farm, there is a laundry list of things I love, the slower pace, the extra space, and the change of seasons, just to name a few. After being in North Carolina for over a year and a half now, I have experienced each seasonal change and I have to say, that although I do love the change from summer to fall, the change from winter to spring is my favorite.

There is something about the freshness and the renewal of spring that comes after the cold and hibernation of winter. Seeing those little green grass blades shoot up, those sweet tulips and daffodils begin to emerge from the ground, and the beautiful blossoms spring from the tree branches makes my heart sing. The minute I hear the birds singing again outside the windows (which can finally be open because it’s not freezing) and I feel the warmer rays of sunshine, my spring fever kicks in. It’s all I can do to not bring some of the beauty that’s occurring outside, into the farmhouse.

Most days, when we are all together, our family spends much of our time in the living room. Our living room is designed around our fireplace, because it is one of my favorite features in the farmhouse. In the winter, beautiful fires are roaring nightly, but during warmer weather, I like to make sure that the fireplace is still something lovely to look at. Styling the mantel is one of my favorite ways to highlight the seasons. This year, I decided to keep the mantel somewhat simple with the addition of a spring peony wreath and some peony garland. I also flanked the mantel with whitewashed mango wood pillar candle holders and white candles. This mantel decor certainly added some springtime freshness into the living room as well as added a rustic romantic feel to the space.Spring Mantel CollageAfter giving our living room some spring touches, I couldn’t stop there. The family room needed some refreshing also. Although this isn’t a room that is used often (Don’t we all have one of those rooms?!), it is a room that is seen several times throughout the day in our home. Being that the farmhouse is one level, the family room separates the main living areas (kitchen, sun room, living room and dining room) from the other side of the house with the bedrooms. Therefore, we pass through this space multiple times, daily. In the family room, because of it’s infrequent use, I decided to add some subtle and simple spring touches. They included fresh flowers, because nothing says spring, like fresh flowers and some sweet spring pillows and lanterns.

Spring Living RoomNow, spring doesn’t stop here in the farmhouse! We all know how much I love tablescaping. With the change from winter to spring, I could not wait to play around with some spring themed decor. I set a more formal table in our dining room and I also set a sweet casual country spring table in our breakfast nook. In the dining room, my color palette focused around white, green and brass. Much like my Christmas tablescapes, some would say. However, this year for spring I used lighter greens and accented it with some touches of pink. I started my table setting as I always do, by keeping my farmhouse table natural. I rarely use tablecloths in my tablescapes because I love the wood finish of my table too much to cover it. I ran my natural linen table runner down the center of the table and put together a centerpiece with white hydrangeas, tulips, pink astralomeria, and eucalyptus greens. I accented the centerpiece with a spring leaf garland and my brass pillar candle holders with white candles. Each place setting started with a  boxwood placemat as the base. On top of the placemats, I used my gold chargers to tie in the brass candle holders in the center. I used  linen and lace napkins with gold napkin rings to tie in the linen runner and brass throughout the tablescape. I was especially excited to set my spring table this year because I was able to use my grandmother’s china that was handed down to me. My grandmother passed away late last year and being able to use her spring patterned china, was a highlight of my spring decorating this year.Spring Dining Room

Spring Dining2In our breakfast nook, I wanted to keep my table setting very rustic and casual. Again, I kept the table clean, with no tablecloth. I love the rustic feel you achieve by not using a tablecloth. I used iron charger plates with sweet spring plates to accent my everyday dishes. In the center of the table I used hydrangeas in pewter mugs to add freshness for spring and hung a boxwood wreath from a burlap ribbon on our barn door. Finally, I restyled our bar cart for the spring season. I added some spring coffee cups from my grandmother’s china set and pots of lavender to my wooden tiered tray. Next to it, I set up my grandmother’s sterling silver coffee/tea set. Each time I see this cart, I immediately think of my grandmother because there are so many of her heirlooms included in it’s styling. On the bottom of the cart, I arranged hydrangeas in mason jars in a farmhouse caddy. This bar cart, with it’s spring touches brings a smile to my face and truly adds a fresh feel to the farmhouse.Spring Breakfast NookSpring Bar CartIn California, I rarely decorated our master bedroom. Upon moving to the farm, one of our purchases was a new bed. I had always wanted an iron bed and I finally got one. It has proven to be one of my favorite things to decorate for the seasons. Nothing says spring like blossoms, so I found a beautiful spring dogwood garland with a matching wreath. I attached the garland to the end of the bed and hung the wreath on the wall above the head of the bed. The last spring touch I added to our master bedroom was to our bedding. I changed out our heavy winter duvet with a lighter weight natural linen quilt. I also added some canvas pillows and a special pillow that I received as a gift from one of my closest friends in California. These touches were just enough for Mr. A and I to feel like spring was in the air, even in our bedroom.Spring Bedroom-2Bringing spring touches inside was so fun and gave the house a renewed and refreshed feel. I didn’t stop there though! Although we are still experiencing some colder weather at times, (I mean it is only early March, and technically still winter!) I added some spring touches to our outdoor areas on the farm, as well. On the porch, I added some sweet bunnies to my antique crocks our by our rockers. I also included some bunnies out by the pond on the dock. On the bench by the pond, I put a spring pillow and throw for those cooler mornings we hang out there with a cup of coffee or for the evenings we spend there with a glass of wine to watch the kids ride the horse or run around the farm.  Spring PorchI love the feeling of nature waking up around me on the farm as spring emerges. The animals get a little livelier, the grass, plants, and trees begin to awaken from their winter naps and we all get a sense of revitalization with each new day of warmer weather and sunshine. Although California does experience some seasonal changes, they pale in comparison to what I’ve experienced here on the farm. I never knew what I was missing! Every change of season gives you a tremendous appreciation for the world we live in and the beauty of nature. I hope you all have a wonderful spring and enjoy the renewal this season brings, not only in nature, but in your homes. Happy spring y’all!
