Happy (Almost) Fall Y’all!

Fall Tabletop TourWelcome! If you’re joining me from Rachel Elizabeth Creates, I so happy you’re here! My name is Meeghan. I am very excited to share my first tablescape design for this fall season with you. Before I get to that though, if you’re a new reader, I wanted to let you know a little more about me. About two years ago, my husband and I, along with our two children moved from a suburban city in southern California where we had a home with a postage stamp sized backyard to a five acre farm in coastal North Carolina, complete with animals. We are having quite an adventure! If you’re interested in hearing more about our story, check out the post, My How Things Have Changed. At Cali Girl In A Southern World, I share about our farmhouse, farm life, our farm animals, some of my favorite recipes and much, much more. Welcome, y’all!

I am so excited to be joining such an incredible group of talented bloggers for a Fall Tabletop Tour. My favorite season is quickly approaching and I’m so excited! I adore fall. I have a new appreciation for the cool, crisp feeling of fall in the air after the hot, humid summers here in North Carolina. Soon everyone will be sipping on pumpkin spice lattes, the farmers will have the pumpkin patches open for the season, and I will be breaking out my jeans, leggings, flannels, sweaters and booties again. I can hardly wait!

In our home, fall is also a time for gathering together. Having friends and family to the farm in the fall is my favorite. One way I enjoy making our guests feel at home is through serving delicious food in a warm,  inviting, and beautiful setting. Feeding people, feeds my soul. See, I’m a Southerner at heart!

When I decorate, I have a common theme, comfort. I want guests in our farmhouse to feel comfortable, which is why I designed my fall tablescape to feel warm, inviting and rustic. Since it’s still September and the kids just went back to school, I’m not quite ready to break out the pumpkin decor yet. Therefore, to introduce the arrival of early fall, I decided to celebrate my first tablescape of the season with apples. The design of this tablescape focuses around linen and antique copper, along with apples and white and green accents. Fall TabletopI wanted to keep my place settings simple for this tablescape to convey the feeling of our home which is casual, comfortable and rustic. I draped the table with my natural flax linen tablecloth and used my plain white dishes in this setting, nothing fancy. Each setting started with my antique copper chargers and then I placed a wood charger on top. The two chargers together added a beautiful layered and rustic feel. Next, came plates. Between my dinner and salad plates, I placed linen and lace napkin. Each place setting then got an apple which I cored out to fit a tea light. Next to the apple candles, I placed a eucalyptus leaf. Not only did these place setting decorations compliment the centerpieces and add beauty to each setting, but they also were incredibly aromatic. I smell fall, y’all!Fall Tabletop With the table set, it was time for the fun part, centerpieces! My vision for this centerpiece centered around apples, but I wanted to tie in some copper too. I am a sucker for hydrangeas and eucalyptus and I thought the beautiful cream colored hydrangeas and the pale green eucalyptus accented the apples perfectly while adding a soft rustic touch to the arrangements. If you know me well, you know that I LOVE flowers and I find it hard to design any room without them. Lately, I have been mixing faux and fresh flowers in my arrangements. Faux flowers are so well made and realistic looking these days. They’re not your grandmother’s old faux flowers anymore! If you find yourself imagining the perfect arrangement, but you cannot find the perfect fresh flower for it at your local flower shop, consider using faux because more often than not, you cannot tell the difference. (Tip: My new favorite faux flowers come from www.afloral.com) I used one large and two smaller copper buckets for the base to my centerpiece arrangements. Inside the buckets I put three small jars filled with water. First, I arranged the hydrangeas because they had the largest blooms. Next, I used kabob skewers and skewered apples from the bottom so the top of the apples with their stems could be seen in the arrangement. Finally, I filled in the spaces left in the arrangement with faux ranunculus and fresh eucalyptus. Once my arrangements were complete, I put them in the center of the table with the largest bucket in the middle and arranged the rest of my eucalyptus around the bottom of the centerpieces and down the table. The scent of apple and eucalyptus filled the dining room and it smelled amazing! The last touch to my tablescape was a sprinkling mercury votives down the center of the table, because I truly believe that no tablescape can have too much candlelight.Fall Tabletop TourWith my fall tablescape completed, I wanted to carry the theme throughout the dining room. I did this by taking down the painting we had over our buffet and I made fall embroidery hoop apple wreaths to put in its place. I stained the hoops with Minwax Dark Walnut Stain and then used faux green apples, eucalyptus branches, and florals along with fresh apples to decorate them. I also added some matching faux ranunculus to the wall vases that flank the buffet and placed some farmhouse lanterns on top of the buffet.Fall Tabletop Tour 2Viola, y’all!
